Dr. Courtney Barber, PsyD, LMFT, AAMFT-S
Psychologist, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, Practice Owner & CEO
Providing quality therapy is not just a career for me, it is my passion. I believe that healing is more than just the physical aspect found in most modern healthcare approaches. It is a combination of balance, or wholeness: mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual. Overall wellness comes from within, and everyone has the ability to break free from past, and present, negativity. Our past experiences should teach us, not control us.
I enjoy working with couples, families, and groups; not only as a whole, but as individuals as well. Families are like an intricate machine with multiple moving parts; each part is unique and has a different function. If the parts do not work together, the system begins to breakdown. I appreciate and understand this complexity and enjoy being part of the systems development, discovery and growth towards happiness. I also find great value in helping couples restore friendship with one another, increase their ability to effectively communicate and learn how to successfully navigate through marital disagreement and conflict. Lastly, one of my specialities is working with teens who do not want to engage/participate in therapy. I have much success with these adolescents and assisting them in identifying clarity in their path forward.
My clients say that I am unique in my ability to be direct, but genuine and kind. I do not use 'cookie-cutter' approaches. Rather, I value my clients as individuals and meet them where they are in life, without judgment, working with them in their journey towards who they would like to be and free from the things that are weighing them down Most that seek therapy do not do so without cause. My goal is to quickly identify negative cycles and assist in addressing them so that they are no longer present. Therapy is not easy, it is hard work, but I believe that you are worth it!

What Clients are saying about Courtney....
"If you are in need of a counselor with excellent communication skills, empathy, problem solving, acceptance and diversity, multicultural competency, and flexibility, you are in great hands with Barber Family Counseling." -Anonymous Client
"This lady (Courtney) has counseled me off so many ledges I’ve lost count! She’s not only kind and empathetic, but able to really give practical tools and steps towards healing. It doesn’t feel like you’re talking to a doctor, but a friend.. and the office at Barber Family Counseling is simply beautiful."
-Anonymous Client
"Courtney is a wonderful coworker and cofacilitator. She is a very direct communicator, so I and clients never have to wonder what she is thinking. She is very helpful for clients who need structure, as she is comfortable being solution-focused and goal-oriented. Her clients individually and in groups see results! Especially with teens, she is wonderful with "resistant" clients because she is able to see through the facade, speak to the person's reality and draw out their own internal motivation to grow."

I prayed for a miracle and I believe that God sent us Courtney. She has a special gift that allows her to reach teens in a way that transforms their lives. I was completely at the end of my rope with my teen. My sweet, kind adorable baby had entered the dark realm of "teenhood", and I did not know how to handle it. Courtney was able to uncover the root of her anger and open the doors of communication for both of us. Courtney gave me hope, peace and my sweet baby girl back! She was the answer to my prayers. I will never be able to thank her enough.

"Courtney has been my compass as I navigate through life. She is compassionate, professional, and truly cares about each of her clients. She tailors her approach to each client so you never feel like a case study, or that you are getting a “cookie cutter’’ treatment. Courtney is the first counselor that actually listened to me and addressed my concerns. I always feel better after I meet with her. She has truly been my life line, and I cannot recommend her enough!"
