Tamika Washington, BA
Master in Marriage & Family Therapy Intern
Welcome! I am excited to explore the stories of individuals, couples, and families that shape their lives and uncover new possibilities for growth, connection, and meaning. I believe everyone has the power to reshape their narrative and create richer, more fulfilling chapters in their relationships—with themselves, others, and the world around them. My approach is rooted in believing that the stories we tell about ourselves and our lives are powerful. Together, we will explore how your experiences, relationships, and cultural influences have shaped these stories. We’ll identify the narratives that no longer serve you and work to co-create new ones that reflect your values, strengths, and aspirations.
I strive to create a brave, non-judgemental, collaborative space where we can explore your experiences with curiosity and self-compassion. By highlighting the strengths and resources you already possess, we’ll reframe challenges and uncover opportunities for growth and transformation. Taking a holistic view, we'll consider all aspects of your mental, emotional, and relational well-being, to support you in building a life that aligns with your aspirations. As a lifelong learner, I remain dedicated to growing as a clinician, drawing on the latest ideas and tools to support your journey. Whether you are navigating life’s challenges, seeking stronger relationships, or striving for a deeper sense of purpose, I am here to help you reclaim your voice, rewrite your story, and shape a future that feels empowering and authentic.
A little about me: I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and am currently pursuing my master’s in couples and family therapy at the University of Colorado Denver. I identify as queer and am in a long-term relationship with my partner. While we do not have children, we are proud pet parents to a variety of animals, including three cats, a bearded dragon, a tortoise, and plenty of fish. Our dream is to one day own a farm where we can care for ducks, chickens, goats, and cows. I come from a large biracial family of Puerto Rican and African American heritage. I am the youngest of four sisters and have seven nephews. Born and raised in Colorado Springs, I grew up in a military family, which shaped my appreciation for adaptability and resilience.
As for my interests, I love going on little adventures to try new cuisines, visit museums, and explore zoos and animal sanctuaries. I enjoy hiking and spending time outdoors when the weather is warm. I also love building Legos, playing video games, and engaging in arts and crafts.
