"Trauma is not what happens to us, but what we hold inside in the absence of an empathetic witness" Gabor Mate
I believe that family and relationship is one of the most beautiful things in existence. I have a strong passion for helping individuals, couples and families restore relationship, so they can experience feelings of safety, belonging, joy and relief with each other amidst the pressures of the world. Each of us have a season where we need a reset; whether that be deep healing from relational wounds that have festered or a tune-up on communication, processing, learning new coping skills or a re-evaluation of how a couple or family system is working.
I hope to be an empathetic witness, for those that I work with. So much beauty and goodness can flow when we are attuned to each other and accepting of each other's shortcomings. Reconciliation and the breaking of cycles is something I hope to see as I work with individuals, couples and families. The therapy room can be a place where one slows down, unhurried and unjudged, to gain an understanding of what is going on and disentangle the chaos of everyday life. I recognize the value of a therapist who is nurturing but appropriately challenging. I also know that people do not care how much you know, until they know how much you care; establishing trust has always been my operating principle in working with others. This is especially true when working with children and adolescents, in which my goal is to establish this trust in the therapeutic, as well as at home, empowering the parent to be the superhero in their child's life (or even the adolescent who you may feel like you don't know anymore).
I enjoy working with children and adolescents as they learn who they want to be in the world. My personal and professional experience has shown me that there is always a reason for a child's behavior. My professional background is in teaching and social work; I was a high school social studies and art teacher at a private, alternative school for three years. Prior to that I lived and worked at a group home for youth aging out of the foster care system, incarceration, hospitals or rehabilitation facilities and learning to be independent adults. I deeply treasure the experiences I had in these places and the people I got to work with. A little about me personally, I am a Texan who has lived in Colorado since 2018. I come from a large, loud, biracial family who I enjoy visiting a few times a year. Hiking with my pup, biking, going to the gym, painting, baking, trying new cuisines (especially spicy food), and live music of every genre are some of my favorite things.
I look forward to working you and helping you set goals to reach your desired space in life!
