Kara Fisher, MA
Master in Counseling Intern
“Family dysfunction rolls down from generation to generation, like a fire in the woods, taking down everything in its path until one person has the courage to turn and face the flames. That person brings peace to their ancestors and spares the children that follow.”
- Terry Real
My purpose as a therapist is to stand beside you and support you as you face the flames in your life. I believe that you have the courage to break cycles and move forward in your own way. I am the person who will come alongside you, I can follow your lead and be the motivator when needed. I can accept you where you are while challenging you and keeping the progress going.
I believe that our whole beings are affected by trauma and other life experiences. Therefore, I take a holistic approach to healing, and use creative as well as evidence-based tools to assist in the process replacing systems that are less effective to more effective ones.
I believe in the power of connection. I use a variety of techniques that help to increase the connection in your relationships. I am studying Gottman Method practices, Family Systems, Mindfulness, Emotional Focused Therapy, Relational Life Training. I also use the power of nature when possible and use a Strength-Based approach.
A little bit about me personally; I am a mountain girl and enjoy hiking with my big dog. I have been married 18 years and have four kids all living at home. My life is busy, intentional, chaotic, and beautiful.
I used to work as a Recreation Therapist, working with adolescents in residential treatment. I loved taking those kids out in nature and watching them learn and grow. I quickly realized that the teens I worked with could have more sustained healing if their families would have been involved. That is why I returned to school and am pursuing a degree in Marriage and Family Therapy.
